Live From Bloomington looking for cover art

Submissions to be accepted until Tuesday

Books shouldn't be judged by their covers, but that is precisely what members of the Union Board will be doing -- CD covers, that is. \nThe annual CD art design competition for Live From Bloomington will come to an end Tuesday, said Live From Bloomington Director Tracy Johnson. The CD is a compilation of nine local bands that will perform April 6 at various venues for Club Night -- an annual event to showcase local music live while simultaneously raising money for a good cause. \nJohnson said there will be more than nine bands playing that night, all of which have performed in Bloomington before. The CD has nine tracks and will be sold at the venues on Club Night. Initially, 100 CDs will be made, but more can be produced if needed.\n"(LFB is about) local music and small underrepresented bands," Johnson said. \nThe Live From Bloomington project and Club Night benefit the local Hoosier Hills Food Bank, whose mission is taking the hunger out of poverty, according to the Web site www.hhfoodbank.org. For a few dollars and some canned good contributions, the public is granted access to all the different music sites around Bloomington on Club Night. All of the proceeds collected, as well as the food donations, go to the food bank to assist the hungry in Monroe County. \nThe competition for the CD design is open to all IU students as well as the entire Bloomington community, Johnson said. Because of inefficient advertising techniques, the Union Board only had 10 submissions last year, but this year it is expecting between 15 and 25.\n"The competition is held in order to find great artists to partake in the LFB Project, as well as get a free chance to exhibit their art," Johnson said.\nShe said the judging committee is not looking for anything in particular for the design competition, as long as the art accurately portrays the meaning of the event. The submission can be hand-drawn or graphically designed and the artists can also choose to design the back cover, booklet and the actual CD sticker if they wish. \nThe Union Board Web site, www.imu.indiana.edu/union_board/, provides all the basic information for submissions.
