Why you should care: The IU Art Museum owns one of only two existing complete sets of the 1964 edition of Marcel Duchamp's Readymades. The Readymades have been the subject of much controversy since their inception, as they challence traditional definitions of art. Duchamp himself never claimed that the pieces were art, yet the objects removal from their normal contexts and Duchamp's very act of conceptualizing the series are arguments in favor of the artisitic status of the Readymades, according to information from the IU Art Museum Web site.
