Go with the 'flow'

"Hustle & Flow" was poorly advertised and might not have scored No. 1 one in the box offices, but that's a shame. "Hustle & Flow" is a perfect example that although a film might have had a low budget, it can still turn out to be a great movie. Craig Brewer directs a cast that could not have been better for this film. Terrence Howard ("Crash") stars as DJay, a hardworking pimp, who spends his days sitting in his car trying to sell his hookers. \nDJay begins to wonder whether the life of a hustler is really for him. He dreams of becoming a well-respected rapper, yet his dreams seem far from, reality as he is barely able to make enough money to get by. \nDJay decides the only way that his life is going to turn around is if he takes control and listens to his heart. He makes his first move by trading contraband for a keyboard. Along with the help from his old friend from school, Key (Anthony Anderson), DJay begins lay down his first tracks. When DJay learns that a local rapper-turned-mogul named Skinny Black (Ludacris) is going to be passing through town on the Fourth of July, he preps for the opportunity of a lifetime and the chance to get his voice heard. \nTerrence Howard does a great job portraying the struggling life of DJay and there is no doubt he was the breakthrough star of 2005. His performance in "Crash" was fantastic and there could have been no better way to top it off than with in "Hustle & Flow". \n Along with the theatrical version of the movie, the DVD includes many special features, which are also something to see themselves. Brewer provides a commentary track that runs along with the movie. There is also a "behind the hustle" feature and "creatin' crunk" feature, which takes the viewer through the behind-the-scenes production and making of the movie. \nAlthough this movie is surely no Oscar nominee, I would recommend it as a must-see not only because of the acting and storyline, but of the beautifully shot and well put together scenes. "Flow" is the perfect movie to watch on a date, with the family (recommended for children of ages 13 and up) or even when you're in the mood to relax and looking for something entertaining to watch.
