If a tie is like kissing your sister, then Thursday's game must have felt like a full-out make out session.\nAfter 110 minutes of soccer, the IU women's soccer team tied arch rival Purdue 1-1 in a game that featured many scoring chances. \nIt wasn't all negative for the Hoosiers, who with the tie officially qualified for the Big Ten tournament. So maybe it's more like a peck on the cheek.\nIn front of the fourth largest crowd in IU women's soccer history (1,736), the Hoosiers took advantage of the fans to gain momentum.\n"We definitely fed off the crowd tonight," said senior captain Kristen Zmijewski. "They were big for us in the overtime period when we were feeling a little drained. They picked us back up."\nAfter a Purdue goal in the first half, IU tied up the game in the second half with a goal by Zmijewski. Senior Robin Barker and junior Ali Brown both assisted with the goal.\nZmijewski, along with defender Robin Barker, goalkeeper Lauren Fabbro and defender Courtney O'Bryan, played their final game at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The team held a celebration for the seniors before the game.\nIn the second half and both overtime periods, the Hoosiers had to play tough defense to keep the Boilermakers from scoring. The defense was led by Fabbro, who had eight saves on the night.\n"This was an intense game for us from the start," Fabbro said. "Anytime you play Purdue, you know it's going to be an intense matchup."\nThe Hoosiers came within inches of winning the game in the second overtime. Purdue got a yellow card for a handball in the box with 46 seconds left to play, which meant an automatic penalty kick. Molly Kruger was awarded the kick and shot the ball to left, but Purdue goalkeeper Lauren Mason made a diving save.\nThe tie means the Hoosiers advance to the Big Ten tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich., starting Nov. 3.\nDespite not coming away with a win, the Hoosiers are confident heading into the conference tournament.\n"If we play like we did tonight, we can beat anybody in the league," said IU head coach Mick Lyon.
