Man sentenced for child porn on CFS

Suspect kept images in University-owned electronic storage

Bloomington resident Stephen D. Grimsley was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment yesterday after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography, according to a press release. \nAn investigation by the IU Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation found that in August 2000, Grimsley used CFS storage space on an IU computer server to store images of nude children. He reportedly was planning to transfer the images, which are illegal under federal law, from the University servers to compact discs. \nThe FBI found Grimsley had about 9,000 images of nude children on five CDs in his home, according to the press release. Some of the images portrayed children engaged in sex acts.\nU.S. District Judge Larry J. McKinney also charged Grimsley with three years supervised release after his prison term, during which he must register as a sex offender, will be subject to search and seizure and will have monitoring equipment placed on his computer, according to the press release.
