Group wants to build hotel on Souter's home

A group is threatening to build a hotel on Supreme Court Justice David Souter's property after the judge helped pass a ruling that personal property can be taken through eminent domain if it will generate greater economic benefits for the government.\nLogan Darrow Clements of Freestar Media, LLC, sent a letter to the code enforcement officer in the Town of Weare, N.H., where Souter lives, detailing a plan to replace his home with a hotel. \n"Although this property is owned by an individual, David H. Souter, a recent Supreme Court decision, Kelo vs. City of New London, clears the way for this land to be taken by the Government of Weare through eminent domain and given to my LLC for the purposes of building a hotel," Clements wrote.\nHe added that the economic benefit is clear.\n"The justification for such an eminent domain action is that our hotel will better serve the public interest as it will bring in economic development and higher tax revenue to Weare," he said.

G-8 leaders scale back goals at summit\nGLENEAGLES, Scotland -- World leaders faced pressure from the United States to scale back goals for relieving African poverty and combatting global AIDS, but British Prime Minister Tony Blair said Wednesday he planned to keep campaigning for his ambitious objectives with other world leaders. The heads of the Group of Eight nations began arriving Wednesday at this posh golf resort for three days of discussions. Blair, as the host, was the first to arrive, coming from Singapore where he had engaged in a round of last-minute lobbying on London's successful bid to serve as host for the summer Olympics in 2012.
