Where did all the good senators go go?

I say this with compassion and love: our government is probably going to be the end of us all. Why? Because the phrases "easier road" and "Bush" should never be in the same sentence, much less paragraph.\nI read an article online last week about the fact that the Bush administration now has an "easier road" when it comes to judicial nominations. An easier road? I thought we were upholding the basis of the Constitution, not trying to shove our political agenda into every corner of Washington. Republican senators are releasing a tiny sigh of relief because they reached an agreement to not change filibuster rules if the Democrats in the Senate would stop blocking confirmation votes. Well, already there is a problem with that: if the Republicans don't like the rules, should they be allowed to change them? Let's keep the whole John Bolton issue out of the picture and say if the Democrats are trying to block the confirmation of some judicial candidates, it's probably because there is a reason! Yes, the Democrats have been spaced out for the past decade but give them a little credit because they don't want to see every Tom, Dick and Harry thrown into the judicial branch.\nWhile trying to hold on to what little, if any, power the Democrats have, they bring up a very valid point. People need to be nominated to serve on the bench for their qualities and outstanding careers as adjudicators - not because they are conservative and friends with the president.\nWe all have very different ideas on what being impartial is and the planet is not overflowing with outstanding candidates. However, if the Republicans feel that they can infest the judicial branch with anyone they feel like, then my solution would be to change the laws so that only a Democrat could be president. Is it fair? Not really, but I see it as the exact same concept as what Bush is trying to pull. \nYou can't use fear to get what you want. Since when is it remotely moral to change the rules of the game while the game is still in play? Yes, the Democrats have been whiney and getting filibuster-happy, but I would too if it stopped the fascists from taking control of Washington. \nPut someone on the Supreme Court because they have an outstanding career and deserve to be there! Not because it will increase the majority of conservatives on the bench and definitely not because you can now tell the poor William Rehnquist that it is okay for him to retire.\nPolitics is incredibly messy but it's important to realize that you can't change the rules if you don't like them, and you can't just impose your beliefs onto everyone.\nIsn't the Star Wars galaxy far, far away? Well, I'm heading there now because this garbage is what makes us so unpopular in the world. So, our unpopularity, our missing Constitutional values, and the fact that we got Martha Stewart but missed Osama bin Laden tells us on thing: our country has lost its focus just a little bit.
