Editor of Alumni Magazine dies at age 42

Hunt suffered from lung cancer for 6 months

In her 23 months at the Indiana Alumni Magazine, Elizabeth "Lissa" Hunt led a complete redesign of the magazine, expanded the magazine's content and gave it a fresh new look. Hunt, 42, passed away Sunday morning from lung cancer.\nBefore taking the position as the editor of the magazine, she was a writer and editor for nine years at RHB Agency in South Bend. Hunt is a native of Bloomington and also an IU alumna -- BA 1988.\n"She had a keen sense of humor and knew IU very well," said John Hobson, senior vice president and chief operating officer at the IU Alumni Association. "She was very active in the community. She was a skilled writer. She was extremely dedicated to her family. She will be missed greatly."\nHobson said her death came as a surprise, though Hunt had been battling lung cancer for almost six months. \nShe was active in the Bloomington Rotary Club, the Bloomington Area Arts Council, served as president of the Hoosier Courts Nursery School Advisory Board and was appointed to the Bloomington Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Commission. \nShe leaves behind her husband Jay Showalter; daughters Naomi Yan-Ping and Thea Elizabeth Showalter; parents Roger and Sally Hunt; brother Craig Phillips Hunt and wife Bevin; sister Holly Chaille and husband Tom. \nA memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the IU Alumni Association Virgil T. DeVault Center, 1000 E. 17th Street. Family will receive friends of Hunt at the center beginning at 1 p.m.\nContributions may be made to a college fund established for her daughters: Showalter/529 College Fund, P.O. Box 7693, Bloomington, IN 47407.\n"She made a large and wonderful contribution for the short time she was at the magazine," Hobson said. "We grieve with her children and family and express our condolences to her entire family, especially to her husband and children"
