Edward Delp, look at what you titled your article ("Shut Up, Europe" Oct. 20). Maybe it is because of hostile attitudes like these that Europeans "Bash America" or Americans. It is fascinating to me, and probably completely unfounded of you, to assume that anyone that disagrees with your country does it out of jealousy, and is only trying to curtail American power.\nBelieve it or not this upcoming election affects the entire world, not just American citizens. Let everyone have their voice, let everyone hear both sides, and then let the individual vote for his/her desired candidate come Nov. 2. It's that simple. More conservative British publications (Bush -- supporting publications) can also encourage their readers to do letter writing. So what exactly is the problem? \nYou wrote in your article, "The people of Europe are free to hold any beliefs they wish, but they are not permitted to tell us how to think." And when did this rule come into effect? Any citizen of any nation is allowed to tell a citizen of another nation how he/she thinks! Do you have to listen to his/her ideas? No. But the exchange of opinions and ideas is democratic and important, it keeps one realistic and far from the grasp of ethnocentrism.\nP.S. As a journalist, do all that you can to steer people away from supporting any government that brandishes a "with us or against us," "good or evil" attitude. You don't have to do what I say, but that's my piece of advice.
