Back on home turf, Hoosiers win 2

IU beats OSU for 1st Big Ten win; takes care of SLU

It took two goals by freshman Frederique Meeuwsen to give the Hoosiers their first Big Ten win, 3-1 versus Ohio State.\nMeeuwsen had another dominating game, giving the Hoosiers' their first Big Ten win of the season. The Ohio State Buckeyes' defense could only watch as Meeuwsen scored in the eighth minute of the game, unassisted. In the 16th minute, off a pass from junior Leslie Wyler, Meeuwsen dropped her second goal.\n"I'm just feeling more confident in my game," Meeuwsen said in a statement. "My teammates have done a great job of putting me in positions to score." \nMeeuwsen now has 10 goals on the season.\nThe Buckeyes did slip one goal past the Hoosiers' defense. Senior OSU forward Cammie Trainer attempted four shots in the game and landed one of them, unassisted off a penalty corner in minute 64. \nJunior Nikki Orciuch came off the bench to put in IU's third and final goal off an assist from sophomore Lydia Schrott. Orciuch's goal marked the first IU goal in four games not directly attributed to Meeuwsen.\nSenior goalkeeper Kate Kanara had four saves on the day. The defense did its part, blocking nearly half of the shots taken by the Buckeyes.\n"In the first half, we executed extremely well," IU coach Amy Robertson said. "We did a good job of taking advantage of our opportunities. In the second half, we played a little passive and didn't execute the game plan. We need to find a way to put two halves together."\nIU did not take a single shot in the second half of play. All 12 of OSU's shots came in the final 12 minutes.\nThough they lost, the Buckeyes beat the Hoosiers in two key statistical categories. OSU had more shots, all of them coming in the second half and more penalty corners. Conversely, IU put five of its eight shots on goal, whereas OSU was on goal for less than 50 percent of its shots.\nSunday, IU got its second 3-1 win of the weekend when they knocked off St. Louis University. After falling behind 1-0 after a SLU goal, Hoosier sophomore Morgan Miller evened the score before half.\nAfter the break, Wiler scored her second goal of the weekend unassisted to take the lead. Just more than 30 seconds later, sophomore Jodi Murphy scored the Hoosiers' third goal to ice the game.\nWith the wins, IU is now 12-7 on the season with only one game left on the schedule. The Hoosiers are 1-5 in Big Ten play. Ohio State falls one game below .500 with its loss to IU, and the Buckeyes are also 1-5 in the Big Ten.
