In Friday's editorial, we unfairly pointed fingers at the Bloomington Faculty Council. Acting on bad information, we indicated that the BFC was in some way responsible for not funding a hardware upgrade which would have prevented the e-mail crash. This is not true, and we apologize.\nWhen something bad happens, it's natural to want a figure to blame. In this case, the BFC -- a large, highly visible governing body -- took the hit. In actuality, the BFC makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees, sets the academic calendar and administers other issues pertaining to faculty, students and the University. The BFC does not appropriate University funds to UITS or any other department. \nWe also advocated patience with UITS -- a course of action we still encourage. We also encouraged students to pay more attention to the administration's actions or inactions. This still stands -- the administration has great power over the academic lives of IU students. And while the University might or might not be partially or wholly responsible for the recent problems with the Ariel server, the BFC was no way at fault. \nThe next time, we will look deeper into issues before we start pointing fingers.
