Asian Film explores immigration\nA documentary exploring Asian immigration to America will be shown at the Asian Culture Center at 7 to 9 p.m. today. "Ancestors in the Americas Part 1: Coolies, Sailors and Settlers" examines how and why people from Philippines, China and India first came to the Americas. David Sanchez performs at Buskirk\nThe IU Latin American Popular Music Ensemble performs at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater tonight with guest saxophonist and multi-Grammy nominee David Sanchez. Under the direction of Ricardo Lorenz, the group will perform a variety of Latin American music genres, including Puerto Rican folkloric bomba and Afro-Brazilian lundu. Critics have been raving about Sanchez's most recent jazz CD release, "Coral," which is said to push the boundaries of Latin popular music. The concert is part of the ensemble's 20th anniversary celebration and starts at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 112 E. Kirkwood Ave.
Brown County 'Odd Couple' run ends\nThis weekend is the last chance to catch the Brown County Playhouse production of Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple." The classic comedy, which has been made into a television series and movie in the past, chronicles the trials and tribulations of a pair of recently divorced bachelors who are opposites in grooming. The Brown County Playhouse is located at 70 Van Buren St. South in Nashville, Ind. In the past, the Playhouse stage has been a home to the talent of the movie star and IU alumnus Kevin Kline. The show will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $17 and are available at the IU Auditorium box office or by calling 855-1103.
Duo explores Indian music\nFriday afternoon vocalist Aditi Deo and percussionist Patrick Hernley will fill Morrison Hall room 006 with the sounds of Indian music. The duo will perform and discuss a variety of Indian musical genres. The songs will range in type from Northern Indian classical forms to contemporary Indian film music. The concert and discussion is sponsored by the folklore and ethnomusicology departments and is the second installment of the Archives of Traditional Music Noon Concert and Lecture Series.
