Former basketball assistant coach Ron Felling will receive a $35,000 settlement from IU after a pending four-year lawsuit for wrongful termination.\nFelling was fired by former basketball coach Bob Knight in 1999 after a post-game confrontation.\nAccording to The Associated Press, Felling also sued Knight, who settled with him two years ago by paying him $25,000 after admitting he shoved Felling.\nIU counsel Dorothy Frapwell said Felling cost the University more than $107,000 over four years in attorney fees.\nFrapwell said she thought paying Felling was "the right thing to do."\n"We can see no wrong-doing, but it was a case we thought we should put behind us and continued litigation would be more expensive," she said. "But we did not concede in the settlement that we did anything wrong." \nAccording to the AP, Felling will keep $23,040 from the settlement for lost wages and compensatory damages, while the rest will be divided between the Indianapolis law firms that represented him.\nKnight was fired from IU in September of 2000 after violating a zero-tolerance behavior policy adopted by the University and former IU President Myles Brand.\nKnight, now the basketball coach at Texas Tech, also sued the University in August on the basis of the indemnity policy he had when he was employed by the University. The suit seeks the $25,000 he paid when he settled a lawsuit brought against him by Felling. \n"The lawsuit has been around for several years," Frapwell said.
