Musical Arts Center closes for asbestos abatement\nThe Musical Arts Center has been closed temporarily for abatement of asbestos in the ceiling of the lobby of the facility.\nTed Alexander, University director of environmental, health and safety, said deterioration of parts of the lobby ceiling led University officials to close the facility Tuesday while further assessment and abatement are conducted. Old heating and cooling pipes in the ceiling that were scheduled for replacement in coming years will be replaced now.\n"There are no other problems in other areas of the building, but we will take samples as a part of our evaluation," Alexander said.\nIt is expected that the MAC will remain closed for at least one month.\nPerformances scheduled in the MAC during that time will be moved to other venues.

Video, audio of commencement available Saturday\nVideo and audio of IU-Bloomington commencement ceremonies on Saturday will be available for use by media. The ceremonies will be conducted at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Assembly Hall. The keynote speaker will be former Indiana first lady Judy O'Bannon.\nIU will uplink 15 minutes of highlights at 4 p.m. Saturday. The video will contain approximately two minutes of general graduation B-roll, followed by Judy O'Bannon's speech.\nThe ceremonies also will be available via live stream on www.broadcast.iu.edu. The streams will continue to be accessible at the link for an extended period of time following the ceremonies.

Young Activist's Funding Network sponsors Thai feast\nA panel of student activists will meet tonight for a Thai feast featuring vegan and organic delicacies and to discuss the role of activism on a local and worldwide level.\nThe event is sponsored by the Young Activist's Funding Network (YAFNet), a recently-founded media and networking organization dedicated to connecting young activists and progressive supporters. The dinner will benefit the group and its upcoming projects.\nThe groups involved in the discussion span the spectrum of social change movements. Groups include No Sweat, INPIRG, Indiana Forest Alliance, Students for Justice in Palestine, Pages to Prisoners, Bloomington Circus Collective and Boxcar Books. As well as this facilitated discussion, the audience will be invited to make inquiries to panel participants.\nThe dinner is open to everyone, and a $5 to $15 suggested donation is requested. The Unitarian Universalist Church on the corner of Fee Lane and the Bypass will play host to this event.
