Where were you?

Where were you? It has been four years in Bloomington, and we all have lots of memories to share. Some we share with everyone, some we share with our close friends, and some we just keep for ourselves. \nDo you remember freshman year? Did you go to the Bob Knight riots our third week on campus? Did you live in McNutt and have to get evacuated because of a late-night mattress fire? Were you able to make it to your first Tuesday final despite the snow fall? Were you one of the people who thought they contracted meningitis the day after the infamous Theta Chi party? Do you remember any part of Little 500 week? \nDid I see you during sophomore year? Did you notice the first American flag displayed Sept. 11 hanging from the front door of Sig Ep? Were you ever in a conversation with the peace campers? What grade would you have gotten in A201 had the professor not given the same mid-term two years in a row? Are you still bragging to your friends that you stole the fish out of Showalter Fountain after we beat Duke? What were those people thinking when they unearthed a tree and brought it to Kirkwood after we lost to Kentucky? \nWhere did you go junior year? Did the toxic chemical spill get you out of an I-Core test? Was your fake ID finally retired, enabling you to go to Nick's? Were any of your friends featured in "Shane's World?" What foreign nation was your study abroad destination? In hindsight, were you learning about a new culture, or did you go on a semester-long spring break? \nWhat happened to senior year? Wasn't it just yesterday that we got here? Did you go to Crazy Horse every Wednesday for cheap wine? How many games of "sink the biz" did you play? Were you a Cubs fan before they made their run, or did you just hop on the bandwagon? At what point did you finally realize grades don't matter anymore?\nMaybe you remember some of these events; hopefully they will bring back more memories of the time you spent here. As for me, it has been a crazy journey. I came here to run track and cross country for IU. After a semester of 90-mile weeks, I decided there was more to college than just running. \nSince retiring from running competitively, I have been lucky enough to do many great things at IU. Freshman year I joined a fraternity. Sophomore year I successfully ran for student body vice-president. Junior year, I got an internship which led to a full-time job on Wall Street. Senior year, I decided to write a bi-weekly column for the Indiana Daily Student. In between, I met a lot of great people, too.\nOf course, I have a few regrets. I wish I would have been a little less focused over where I was going and instead chose to live in the moment. I know I missed out on a lot of great experiences because I was too focused on getting a job, running fast or studying for the test I had the next day. I also wish I would have taken more risks in college. If I am going to screw up in my life, better to do it here where there are no consequences. \nHigh school graduation day was the happiest day of my life because I knew my life was only going to get better. College graduation day will be the saddest day of my life, since I know how hard it will be for my life to get any better than it was these past four years. Seniors, see you on Kirkwood for one last week.
