Storms damage Hoosier homes

JAMESTOWN, Ind. -- Severe storms rolled across central Indiana Tuesday, injuring at least one person and damaging several homes.\nWayne Henry, superintendent of utilities, said he saw a tornado about 5:40 p.m. just west of downtown of this community, 25 miles northwest of Indianapolis.\n"It wasn't like the traditional dark funnel, it was light colored and was picking up debris. It definitely had rotation to it," Henry said. "There's quite a few homes damaged and a garage that's completely gone."\nThe National Weather Service could not immediately confirm whether the damage was caused by tornadoes.\nHenry said he had heard reports that people were injured by the storm's passage through Jamestown but was not sure of how many or the severity of the injuries.\nIndianapolis television station WTHR showed footage of four tractor-trailers that were flipped over along Interstate 74 and several homes without roofs.\nIn Kokomo, fire Capt. Clayton Duncan said what authorities believed to be a tornado touched down on the north side of the city. No information was available on damage to buildings.\nOne minor injury was reported, Duncan said, and that person was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital.\nVideo from WTHR's helicopter showed some damage to at least one building in Advance and several homes in Jamestown.
