Hoosiers face another ranked team

For the third consecutive weekend, the IU women's field hockey team will face off against a top-ranked opponent today when the Hoosiers take on No. 5 Michigan (9-3).\nThe Hoosiers enter this weekend's game with an overall record of 6-3 and a Big Ten record of 0-2. Although the Hoosiers have lost both of their conference games this season, they were against two of the best teams in the nation in No. 9 Penn State and No. 8 Michigan State. \nOne of the bright spots for the Hoosiers this year, however, came last weekend against PSU in a 2-1 loss. The Nittany Lions, last year's national runner-up, defeated the Hoosiers in a close game, and IU had several chances to tie the score late in the game. \nCoach Amy Robertson said she was very happy with the way the team played last weekend. \n"I am disappointed for the girls," Robertson said in a statement. "They played hard and believed we could win and never stopped playing. We had set out several goals for this game, and we accomplished all of them."\nIn order for the Hoosiers to win this weekend, the team will most likely have to play better than it did against Penn State and better than it has played all year as Michigan is not only playing at home but the Wolverines have won nine of their last 10 games. In fact, the Wolverines only losses this season were to No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 2 North Carolina and No. 3 Maryland.\nThe Wolverines are led by one of the top players in the nation, senior April Fronzoni, who is currently one of the frontrunners for the Honda Award, which is given to the top field hockey player in the nation. Fronzoni has already scored 12 goals in 12 games this season as well as picking up four goals. Sunday the Hoosiers will return home to face off against the Lindenwood Lions, a team the Hoosiers beat 3-0 last year. A win in either one of these two games will set a new record for the Hoosiers for wins in a season.\nThe game will begin at 1 p.m. today and the game Sunday will take place at 2 p.m. in Mellencamp Pavilion.
