Bangles bungle comeback album

To understand this review, one should know a little about me. I love pop music. \nI have no problem nor do I even possess any kind of aversion to pop hooks, vocal harmonies, catchy lyrics or songs about love and whatnot. \nSo nothing could have pleased me more than to give an honest account of the pop perfection of The Bangles' comeback record, Doll Revolution. \nOnly The Bangles refused to give me this chance. The direct or indirect affiliations with Brad Wood (producer), Dave Grohl (choral boy) and Elvis Costello could not save this record from blowing. \nThe Elvis Costello song that titles the album, also its first track, is the best, and a good cover can only be icing on the cake. However, the other 14 songs on the album never come close to measur-ing up to the one Costello wrote. \nSusanna Hoffs, who is still blazing hot and still has an amazing voice, is heard far too rarely. The melodies and chord changes are extraordinarily bland. The lyrics are not even reworked clichés; they are just plain clichés. They have failed and will continue to fail to make a comeback if this is as good as they can do.
