RPS to give awards for 'coolest room' in contest\nResidential Programs and Services is holding a contest for students who have rooms with style. By entering, all contestants automatically win a free T-shirt. A grand prize of a $150 gift certificate to Bed, Bath & Beyond will be awarded to the resident with the coolest room. Lecture to focus on black film posters\nDr. Edward Mapp, professor emeritus at the City College of New York and co-author of "A Separate Cinema: Fifty Years of Black-Cast Posters," will give a lecture for "Imaging Blackness, 1915-2002: Film Posters from the Black Film Center/Archive," which will be on display at the IU Art Museum from Oct. 11 to Dec. 21. The speech will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., today, in Fine Arts, Room 102. A reception will follow from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in the Thomas T. Solley Atrium of the IU Art Museum. Roundtable to discuss changing China\nThe East Asian Studies Center will hold a roundtable discussion on "Making Sense of Today's Changing China." The roundtable, moderated by Jeff Wasserstrom, will feature short commentaries by three China specialists in three different disciplines, all of whom are new to IU this year. Speakers include sociologist Ethan Michelson, economist Rick Harbaugh and specialist in comparative education Heidi Ross. Each presenter will discuss a Chinese phenomenon related to his or her main area of expertise. The event will be held at noon today in the Distinguished Alumni Room of the Indiana Memorial Union. Memorial to commemorate the life of English professor\nThe Polish Studies Center is holding a memorial to honor the life of Timothy Wiles, an associate English professor who died in Bloomington on July 17, 2003. Wiles spent a year in Poland researching contemporary Eastern European drama movements. There, he directed several plays at an international student theater festival in Wroclaw, Poland. The dissertation that resulted from that research was published as a book, "The Theater Event: Modern Theories of Performance." The memorial will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at the Ruth N. Alpha Phi raises over $2,800 for Cardiac Care\nAlpha Phi sorority held its inaugural "Cardiac Arrest" philanthropy event on Oct. 3, hoping to raise at least $1,500 for Cardiac Care, which helps support cardiac health in women. Alpha Phi ended up raising more than $2,800. Almost 30 student leaders were "locked up" in front of the Alpha Phi house, at 908 E. Third St. Prisoners had to raise $25 throughout the day to post bail. To add a twist to the event, people were invited to donate money to keep prisoners in jail longer by increasing the prisoner's bail. The prisoners were arrested at 10:45 a.m. and released at 5 p.m.
