'In This Skin?' More like 'In This Marriage"

Jessica Simpson returns with her junior album, In This Skin. After hit singles and power ballads such as "Irresistible" and "Where You Are," featuring husband Nick Lachey, Simpson proves she possesses a more sultry side to her voice in her latest album. Although Simpson co-wrote all but two songs on her new album, her latest smash single, "Sweetest Sin," was written by famous songwriter Diane Warren. Her video to "Sweetest Sin" has also gained attention -- it features her and Lachey in an intimate setting.\nAlthough Simpson deserves credit for writing most of the songs on this album, In This Skin barely proves to show much below the surface. "With You" and "I Have Loved You" are love songs that seem to be written about her love and relationship with Lachey. Her songs "Underneath" and "Be" are beautiful ballads, also about her relationship with Lachey. However, these ballads do not seem as corny as a few others on the album and truly show the power and meaning in her voice when talking about love.\nThe most powerful and meaningful song on this album is "You Don't Have To Let Go." This song is her strongest performance on this record, a tribute to her parents for being there for her and for making sacrifices in their lives to help her achieve her dreams.\nOther songs on the album include "In This Skin," "Forbidden Fruit" and "Loving You," which produce the more upbeat rhythms on the album. "Forbidden Fruit" has a good dance rhythm, while "Loving You" has more of an R&B vibe. Simpson dedicates In This Skin to her fans and sends the message that every person should feel comfortable with who they are in their own skin. \nOverall, the album is satisfactory but barely shows more of Simpson's feelings on topics other than her relationship with Lachey.
