Love don't live here anymore

Last week, televangelist Pat Robertson called on his audience to pray for God to replace three Supreme Court justices with conservatives who are more of his ilk. Robertson's 21-day "prayer offensive" was launched in the wake of the court's 6-3 vote that decriminalized sodomy. And in a letter on the Christian Broadcasting Network Web site, he said that the ruling, "has opened the door to homosexual marriage, bigamy, legalized prostitution and even incest." \nUnder a tissue-thin veil of feigned propriety, Robertson never named names. Instead, he targeted the offending justices by their age and illnesses, respectively when he said, "One justice is 83 years old, another has cancer and another has a heart condition. Would it not be possible for God to put it in the minds of these three judges that the time has come to retire?" \nWell, in the meantime, would it not be possible for God to smack Pat Robertson upside his hollow head, thus imbuing him with a scintilla of compassion and decency? Better yet, would it not be preferable for God to call this less-than-humble servant home for good, thus putting him out of our collective misery?\nI'm sick of politicians, pundits and pontificators tossing around the terms liberal and conservative as if the economic, political and social discourse in this country were a game of keep-away, with the voting public leaping and grasping at thin air to make sense of these threadbare catch phrases. \nConservatism is defined as a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions and preferring gradual development to abrupt change. \nRobertson is called a right-wing conservative, but he's as wrong-headed as David Duke, and he's all for abrupt change from our centuries old Constitutional Republic to a swallow-and-follow theocracy. Let's look at what's been coming out of his mouth over the years, shall we?\n• "A Supreme Court ruling is not the Law of the United States. I don't think the Congress of the United States is subservient to the courts. They can ignore a Supreme Court ruling if they so choose." \nHey Pat, read Article 3, Sections 1 and 2 of the Constitution. That way, you won't have to step out of character and think anything.\n• "Planned Parenthood is teaching kids to fornicate, teaching people to have adultery, every kind of bestiality, homosexuality, lesbianism -- everything that the Bible condemns."\nEducating women about their bodies and teaching them to make informed decisions as they relate to childbirth is tantamount to practicing everything the Bible condemns. Sounds like someone needs his mind washed out with soap!\n• "I am absolutely persuaded one of the reasons so many lesbians are at the forefront of the pro-choice movement is because being a mother is the unique characteristic of womanhood, and these lesbians will never be mothers naturally, so they don't want anybody else to have that privilege either." \n That which resides in the heart will most often depart from the lips. So, why the queer smear, Pat? Working on a few issues of your own are you?\n • "You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists. Nonsense. I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don't have to be nice to them."\n"Therewith blessed we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made of the similitude of God." -- James 3:9\nPat, the Supreme Court is the least of your worries, as I should think that a warm brain and a heart that actually beats would be at the top your wish list these days.
