DePauw dorm gutted by fire is torn down\nGREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Demolition crews began tearing down an 86-year-old dormitory at DePauw University Tuesday, a year after the building was gutted by flames.\nThe demolition of Rector Hall was expected to take about five days. Crews may need another month to haul away rubble and prepare the site for new construction, said Steve Jansen, project superintendent for the company handling the work.\nThe demolition will make way for apartment-style townhouses. Work on a new 136-student housing complex, Rector Village, is scheduled to begin in late June or early July.\nFire officials traced the April 2002 fire that gutted Rector Hall to electrical appliances. None of the 116 students living in the hall at the time of the fire were hurt.\nThe university had planned to rebuild the hall, but DePauw officials later decided to build something new after lengthy negotiations with their insurance company.\nDePauw is following a housing trend across the country by building more apartment-style residences, rather than dorms, because students prefer them.\nLebanon teacher accused of tying \nup student\nLEBANON, Ind. -- School officials have suspended a teacher who they say tied a sixth-grader's hands behind his back to keep him from rolling a pencil on his desk.\nThe suspension of Ann Linton, a science teacher at Lebanon Middle School, was until Friday, and Assistant Superintendent Robert Taylor said he did not expect her to face any further disciplinary action.\nThe 13-year-old student told police officers Tuesday that Linton first tied his hand behind his back with twine, then tied him to a chair after he escaped.\nThe boy was not seriously injured but did complain of pain in his wrist, Lebanon police Lt.
