Team loses a pair of games

The IU women's tennis team traveled to North Carolina to face off against two of the top rated teams in the country. Unfortunately, the Hoosiers lost both of their matches this weekend. The two losses dropped the team's season record to 2-2. \nThe Hoosiers started the weekend off on Saturday when they faced the 4th ranked team in the nation, the Duke Blue Devils. The Hoosiers were not only facing the highly touted Blue Devils, but they also were forced to forfeit three matches because two of their six starters were injured and unable to play this weekend. \nAlthough the Hoosiers were unable to win a match against Duke, head coach Lin Loring said he believes this match was a good experience for the team.\n"Duke is probably the best team that we will face all year," Loring said in a press release. "It was a good learning experience for the girls that were able to play. Until we can put our six starters on the court, it will be hard to be competitive as a team."\nOn Sunday, the Hoosiers traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C., to face the 13th ranked Demon Deacons of Wake Forest. Although the Hoosiers had an extremely difficult weekend, one of the few bright spots came on Sunday when freshman Sarah Batty knocked off the 70th ranked player in the nation, sophomore Katie Martzolf, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. \nLoring was excited about Sarah's performance.\n"It was a great win for Sarah," Loring said. "Today was more frustrating for us because I feel that if we had all of our girls we had a chance to win. We were very competitive today and with the whole team here, we had a chance to beat them. But the highlight was definitely Sarah's win over Katie."\nThe Hoosiers were also able to win a match in doubles against Wake Forest when the second doubles team of junior Linda Tran and sophomore Dominika Walterova knocked off Wake Forest's sophomore Danielle Schwartz and Martzolf 9-7. \nThe Hoosiers next match is on Saturday at home against Marquette.
