Self-described leftist comic strip artist Aaron McGruder is an idiot. He is a hatemonger posing as a "social activist" to give credit to his venom and stupidity. When Mr. McGruder spoke at IU Thursday, he made a variety of bogus claims in between plugging his "Boondocks" comic strip. However, most glaring was his statement that Republicans murdered Senator Paul Wellstone of Minnesota, whose plane crashed weeks before the November 2002 elections. Is there any evidence Republicans murdered Senator Wellstone? No. Is there any sanity in this accusation? No. Are Aaron McGruder's lies proof that extremists will justify slander and exploitation of human tragedy to further their own outlandish viewpoints? Absolutely.\nI'm a Republican. Does that mean that I am directly responsible for the murder of Senator Wellstone? You betcha. As Supreme Commander of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, I use sinister corporate connections and three-piece suits not only to cause plane crashes, but heart attacks, grass stains, hangovers and paper cuts. Worst of all, I am responsible for elitist college music critics who constantly bash musicians like Aerosmith and Britney Spears simply because their songs have a beat, a lot of people like them and the lyrics aren't about how they hate their lives.\nHowever, what is interesting is that the American public does not know that the left is guilty of terror too.\nFor instance, Aaron McGruder used a time machine to release the bubonic plague in Europe. Mr. McGruder even had the audacity to sink the Titanic and eliminate Crystal Pepsi.\nThese claims read like an episode of "G.I. JOE," but it doesn't matter. I hate Aaron McGruder and I will use his own tactics against him.\nThis makes it acceptable for me to blatantly lie about McGruder if that helps discredit his message. Why let the facts enter the debate when I can eliminate the opposition with demonizing lies?\nWhat would compel McGruder to make such a horrible claim? Accusing a group of people of murder is not something to take lightly. Why not simply present facts showing why Republican policies are bad and his are good? Basically, McGruder thinks he is very smart and you are very, very dumb. He knows he must make up stories for the good of the American public, since dolts like you are too stupid to grasp concepts like "facts" or "logic." In his mind, you cannot be trusted to think for yourself. If you give conservative arguments a chance, you would use your own brain to think about them, and maybe even agree with them! Mr. McGruder and other fanatics like him must prevent this from happening, even if it includes outright lying to hundreds of college students.\nOf course, alluding to McGruder as being intelligent is too kind. He tells fantasy stories because he isn't smart enough to use facts and logic to justify his own ideas. Why he holds these views is open to debate, but accusing someone of murder with no supporting facts is wrong. Dead wrong. The bile that comes out of Aaron McGruder's mouth should not be welcomed on this campus. Who's going to speak at IU next, David Duke and his KKK cronies? This column began with the statement that Aaron McGruder is an idiot. He is, since the hate he spews will only discredit his political views regardless of how right they may be. If our country is ever going to have constructive debate on affirmative action, war in Iraq and other serious issues, liars like Aaron McGruder must be called out and ridiculed for the hate they sow.
