At least "National Security" was better than its accompanying trailer for the horrendous-looking "Biker Boyz." That being said, I'm sure this movie will do great at the box office, making more money than most of us will ever see. That is, unless we unite to avoid the cinematic threat that is "National Security." \nHank (Steve Zahn) is a cop who sees his partner killed during a heist. Earl (Martin Lawrence) gets kicked out of the police academy because of his attitude. The two meet in an awkward situation ending with Earl accusing Hank of police brutality. After Hank gets out of jail they meet again, both now security guards. To make a long story short, they end up teaming together to stop some thugs and dirty cops from stealing some rare metal. \nPeople wanting action, laughs and Lawrence should check out "Bad Boys." From the opening robbery sequence, to the action scenes, to the story, National Security wants to be that movie. While the movie did have some funny parts, they are all in the preview. Those that have seen the TV spot have seen it all. Zahn, who can be funny at times, seems out of his element. The whole movie feels disjointed, especially the first half, cutting between scenes aimlessly in the hopes of getting to the terrible slow motion gunfights or scenes where Earl verbally harasses Hank. Lawrence comes off as annoying, repeating the same lines and making everything a racial joke. This is just the tip of the iceberg. \nAll supporting characters are less than one-dimensional, the bad guys are worthless, and there's nothing emotional attatched to the teaming of Hank and Earl. I was annoyed with Earl for the dirt he puts Hank through and annoyed with Hank for taking it. It's a nuisance to watch. Director Dennis Dugan ("Saving Silverman," "Happy Gilmore") just muddles his way through the dreadfully dull script, completely void of a real story. \n"National Security" strives to be an action-buddy-cop-comedy riot, but ends up stuck in the middle of nowhere. See it if you must, but you'd be better off renting "Bad Boys"
