Professor to link classic works with philanthropy

Professor Richard Turner will give a lecture today called "I'll Change the World - Maybe: Ambivalence about Philanthropy in Literature." \nWhile examining great novels like Jonathon Swift's "A Modest Proposal," Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," George Eliot's "Middlemarch," Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man," and Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater," Turner will highlight the weaknesses of philanthropy in assuaging suffering.\nThe lecture will take place at 4 p.m. at the Poynter Center, 618 East Third Street. Parking is available in the lot south of the Center.\nTurner is a professor of English and Philanthropic Studies at IUPUI.
