Elves and other myths

The United States is a marvelous nation which is determined to do its very best to allow individual citizens (and non-citizens) to think and believe whatever they wish. This marvelous sense of freedom comes, however, at a rather large price -- we get to hear all about said beliefs. If this were not true, you wouldn't be reading this article, fresh from the IDS. \nI have been impressed with the wide array of opinions held by the liberals in the world, people whom I fondly call leftists. This tends to be a misnomer as I'm a bit to the right of the right of the middle. Of course, this should be evident by now. Listed below are some organizations which I tend to find amusing and the reasons why this is so.\nThe Earth Liberation Front (ELF) is a highly unprofessional group of terrorists/freedom fighters who claim to act on behalf of Mother Nature. I find these people rather amusing as they traipse about the wooded areas of the world, obtaining enjoyment from sabotaging trees and such. \nStrangely enough, ELF hasn't thought that getting members together and embarking on a nation-wide tree-planting spree would do much good. Planting several million new trees might make their cause a bit more valid and might grant them some sympathy from our representative politicians, but until that occurs, I suggest that it's open season on all Elves. \nFeminists, God love 'em, aren't necessarily bad. However, I think many have missed the point of equality which should stress being equal in terms of quality rather than quantity. Claiming that men and women are the same with the exception of genitalia is simply ludicrous. Women and men supplement and complement each others' strengths and weaknesses. It's a beautiful thing. \nAn example is the battle over abortion. Personally, I'm against it. However, I agree with Dennis Miller who believes that on this issue, insofar as men can't get pregnant and, therefore, can't have an abortion, it's easy to be against them. However, men truly don't have a right to determine this (Miller, Dennis. "Feminism in the '90s", Dennis Miller Rants, www.igorn.com/dmiller.htm).\nI think that a nation-wide female referendum on said subject should be taken so that the matter can be dropped. This is a clear area where men and women are not equal, thus perhaps causing the feminists to rethink certain aspects of their charter and to seriously ponder the meaning of equality. \nLastly, Catholic bashing seems to be a fun trend these days. I find this sick and twisted. In a land where we are supposed to be able to practice whatever religion we wish without public uprising on the subject, the Catholics seem to be left out. The felonies of several priests require said priests to be either jailed or shot. Just as individual doctors may commit malpractice, it should not mean that the entire profession is evil. Most protestants and atheists I've talked to in the past year don't even consider Catholics to be Christian. Check out www.jesus-is-lord.com/cath.htm for an eye-opening perspective. This is a clear sign of rampant ignorance in America, a \nproblem which must not be exacerbated. There you have it -- three sects of people that enjoy the freedom to proclaim their ideals at the expense of common sense. I truly hope that the ELF, feminists and Catholic-bashers go to their local libraries and educate themselves as to what the real world is actually like. Until their liberal rhetoric becomes somewhat acceptable, their words will be nothing more than noise.
