Season finishes with 2 road losses

The volleyball team lost each of its two matches in Michigan last weekend in four games. The losses conclude the season for the Hoosiers, who finished 8-20 overall and 5-15 in the Big Ten. \nFriday, the Hoosiers were defeated by the Michigan Wolverines 30-27, 30-28, 19-30, 30-24. Saturday night brought about another four games, this time against the Michigan State Spartans. Scores on Saturday were 30-22, 30-23, 25-30 and 30-24.\nGame one on Friday began in the Hoosiers' favor but ended in a Michigan triumph after a tie score of 27-27. The three quick points by the Wolverines gave them the win in game one.\nGame two was taken by Michigan as well, but in game three the Hoosiers came back to dominate on the court and win 30-19. \nJunior Hillary Toivonen lead the way in game four with two kills, putting IU up 6-1. But Michigan came back to win the final game 30-24. \nLeading the Hoosiers on Friday was sophomore Melissa Brewer with 17 kills, while freshman Christina Archibald had 13 kills and 11 digs. Helping the Wolverines with their victory was Jennifer Gandolf with 17 kills. Friday night's games left Michigan with a record of 13-13 overall and 9-10 in the conference. \n Saturday night was similar to Friday for the Hoosiers as they took on the Michigan State Spartans.\nDespite the 4-0 lead in the beginning for the Hoosiers, game one was won by State 30-22. \nIt was game two that gave the Spartans a scare as IU won its only game of the night, 30-23. No. 22 Michigan State finished off the Hoosiers 30-25 and 30-24 in games three and four respectively. \nLeading the Hoosiers once again was Brewer with 14 kills while Erin Hartley led the Spartans with 21 kills. The weekend left MSU 20-7 overall and 13-7 in the conference.
