Scrimmage begins season

The men's and women's swimming teams have their season openers this weekend with a scrimmage today and a meet with Evansville Saturday. Both events are at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center, with the scrimmage starting at 3 p.m. today and the meet beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.\nThe men's team holds a 2-0 overall advantage against the Aces while the women defeated Evansville 186-108 in last year's opener. The women's squad is returning 15 letter winners while the men have 12 returning.\nThe men's team has fresh blood with 17 newcomers. \n"We lost our top point scorers from last year," men's coach Kris Kirchner said in a press release. "But with the addition of these 17 freshman and the nucleus we have coming into this year, we could be contenders in one of the most competitive conferences in the nation, the Big Ten."\nThe women's team will be welcoming seven new members to a team that broke 18 of 19 school records last season. \n"We are probably the strongest in the fly and (individual medley)," women's coach Dorsey Tierney said in a release. "Our backstrokers are strong, but our depth in the (butterfly) and (Individual Medley) are essential to our success"
