Primary Elections Tuesday

Indiana's primary elections are Tuesday, May 7, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters will select their parties' candidates for the Nov. 5 general elections. They will also elect precinct committeemen and state convention delegates. \nThis year voters will be asked to provide new information to help reduce the number of duplicate registrations throughout the state. Indiana Secretary of State Sue Anne Gilroy said voters will be asked to provide a number to be used as their voter ID number.\n"This move toward greater efficiency has the potential to save counties thousands of dollars," GIlroy said in a press release. "We estimate that our voter registration roles are bloated by as much as 20 percent causing our costs to be significantly increased. Voters who provide an identification number are helping us to alleviate this problem and save precious tax dollars."\nRegistered voters who wish to vote absentee may do so in person at the County Clerk's Office, 301 N. College Avenue, until noon Monday.\nVoters may call either the Monroe County Voter Registration Office at 349-2690 or Election Board Office at 349-2612 for more information on where they should vote. Only Democrats and Republicans vote in their parties' primaries.
