It goes without saying that we, the students of Indiana University, express our deepest regret at the tragedies that have transpired in recent days. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and to their families. \nAs our nation looks inward for support, we are reminded of the importance of community. Indiana University is comprised of nearly every race, creed, religion and nationality. All are welcome here.\nWe will not allow these unfortunate events to compromise our solidarity. We recognize that not one among us is any more or less a member of our community than any other. It is clear that as we endure this strain together, we must heal together. \nIn this spirit, we recognize the individual responsibility of every IU student, faculty and staff member to unite and maintain our community. Acts of hatred must be condemned by all of us if any of us hopes to emerge from this tragedy stronger than we were before.\nWe commit as individuals and as leaders to promote this attitude through our thoughts, our words and our actions, and we ask that all members of the IU community join us in these efforts.
