Keep families in mind

Staff Editorial Dissent

For the summer, I'm living in Green Acres where many college students I know have called it a "real neighborhood." \nAcross the street from the house, there's an older couple in, or close to, their 70s whose neighbors are now all college students. Down the street there are two or three more houses where older couples live, but the rest of the neighborhood has basically been taken over by student tenants.\nIt's sad to hear the college neighbors blaring their music and peeling in and out of the driveway while I'm sure the older residents who have lived there for decades wish they had their old neighborhood back.\nThis continuing situation proves that this zoning plan needs to pass.\nIt's still a nice neighborhood, but it's sad to think that families such as the ones in Green Acres are being disturbed and forced to deal with large groups of students. It's not as though the entire City of Bloomington would be forced to succumb to these guidelines. All it's doing is trying to preserve the "familyness" of certain areas. Bloomington's main establishment may be the University, but people have to realize that it's not only students who live in this town. Year-round families live here too.
