Dunn Meadow was filled with ketchup, dish detergent and maple syrup Sunday as teams defended their flags in Alpha Phi's ninth-annual Capture the Flag philanthropy event.\nThe philanthropy raised nearly $500 for the Alpha Phi Foundation, which funds research and education for heart disease, said Alpha Phi philanthropy chairwoman Katie Zimmerman, a junior.\nTeams from 10 greek houses braved the cold to participate, each bringing food to defend their respective flags. Syrups, dish detergent and ketchup sprayed everywhere as teams hunted flags.\nJunior Jamie Markoff, a member of Alpha Xi Delta, said she wasn't really sure what she was getting into when she was told to bring food to defend her flag, but that she and her sorority sisters had a great time.\n"It was a lot of fun. I think that the girls from my house really enjoyed the game, despite the fact that two of them got thrown in the river," she said. "It was definitely an adventure trying to get home without getting maple syrup, dish detergent and chocolate syrup all over the place."\nFreshman Kerry Hall, a member of Kappa Delta, said she also had a close encounter with the Jordan River. \n"(My roommate) doused me with an entire bottle of Hershey's syrup, then proceeded to tackle me in the Jordan River," Hall said. "The only bad part was the hour-long shower I had to take afterwards. And I am proud to say that after doing laundry, not a single article of clothing was stained."\nAlpha Phi invited every greek house on campus, and the teams participating paid a $40 entry fee, which went to the Alpha Phi Foundation.\nDespite chilly temperatures, Zimmerman said she was excited about the success of this year's event.
