Committee to decide Davis' fate

Brand appoints 7 members to consider team's options

IU President Myles Brand appointed a seven-member committee Friday to decide the fate of interim men's basketball coach Mike Davis. Davis was temporarily named to the position Sept. 12 following the firing of former coach Bob Knight.\nVice President for Administration Terry Clapacs will lead the committee, which consists of: Clapacs; Brand; professor Bruce Jaffee, chair of the faculty athletics committee; incoming athletics director Michael McNeely; board of trustees President John Walda; trustee Cora Smith Breckenridge; and trustee Peter Obremsky.\nUniversity spokeswoman Susan Dillman indicated that no decision concerning Davis' future had yet been reached.\n"It's no accident it's not called a search committee," Dillman said. "It is a committee. It may or may not involve a search. It's just too soon to tell.\n"It would be inappropriate to characterize it as 'yes or no' on Davis, just as it would be inappropriate to characterize it as a search committee."\nBrand said in a press release that no deadline has been set for the final decision, but that the committee will move "expeditiously."\nHe also offered his congratulations to Davis and the basketball team "for a fine performance this season under difficult circumstances"
