Local man arrested for attempted murder

Police arrested a Bloomington man Thursday for attempted murder on the 900 block of N. Jackson Street.\nTimothy Shawn Collins, 47, was booked Thursday and charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, said jail officials. \nCollins was one of three men at the residence while ambulance personnel were treating a woman for eye injuries, said Captain Joe Qualters of the Bloomington Police Department. Collins got into a verbal disagreement with the victim which led into a physical fight, Qualters said. The ambulance workers heard the men arguing in the kitchen and saw them on the floor fighting, he said. According to Qualters, the victim said, "He stabbed me." Collins stabbed the 41-year old male victim twice in the back, said Sgt. Rick Helms.\nAt this point the ambulance workers contacted the police, and fearing their safety, waited in the front yard, Qualters said. Officers arrived at approximately 6 p.m. and immediately took Collins into custody, Helms said. \nQualters said that the victim left the residence and was walking down the block. Ambulance workers followed him until the police arrived and then took him to the hospital, he said. He said the wounds were not fatal. Bloomington Hospital could not comment on the victim's condition. \nAlcohol is said to be a major factor, Qualters said. Jail officials also confirmed that Collins had an extensive police record. He is currently being held at the Monroe County Correctional Center without bond.
