Team comes from behind to pull out a victory

The IU men's track team won the Collegiate Cup this weekend at Penn State's banked track. The meet was highly contested with the Hoosiers scoring 105 points to beat the second place Nittany Lions by six. Both teams came into the competition ranked in the top 10 nationally, and the two lived up to their billing. The 3rd place Michigan Wolverines only scored a total of 59 points.\nAnother solid team performance was turned in with points being scored in the distance races, field events and the sprints. The men's team made a 20-point comeback in the last four events to win take the win. It came down to the pole vault, 3000 meters, triple jump and the 4x400 meter relay. \nIn the pole vault, senior Dino Efthimiou took second but it was decided by missed jumps.\n"I thought it was a great (performance)," he said. "This is the best we have looked since I have been here."\nIn the 3000 meters junior Chris Powers took first place, and in the triple jump, freshman Aarik Wilson and junior Hasaan Reddick took first and third, respectively.\n"I (set a personal record) by a foot," Wilson said. "It is all coming together at the right time." \nHe also finished third in the long jump, as teammates freshman UnRico Lloyd and Reddick took second and fifth. The 1600 meter relay team ran 3:11 for a close second place finish off the home team.\nThese were not the only athletes to excel in Pennsylvania. Sophomore sprinters, Contrell Ash and Ryan Sarbinoff, both had solid performances. Junior hurdler Matt Harris tied his school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.98. Senior Wasyl Fedoriw took second in the 35 pound weight throw while improving on his school record and his NCAA provisional mark. He also took fourth in the shot put.\n"I think that we didn't run full strength, but we still won the meet," he said. "We were definitely happy to come away with a victory."\nOutside Activities\nJuniors Chad Andrews and Bart Phariss went to Indianapolis this weekend to run against a tough field in the 5000-meters at the Canon IV Classic hosted by Butler University. The two were hoping to run provisional qualifying times and they accomplished their goal. Andrews ran a time of 14:07 and Phariss finished in 14:10. This was Andrews' first provisional of the season and the second for Phariss.
