Shoplifter flees scene from library food court; no charges pressed

An employee of the Main Library food court reported an attempted assault after stopping a shoplifting suspect Monday, the IU Police Department reported.\nAccording to IUPD Lt. Jerry Minger:\nFor several weeks, a 20- to 21-year-old black female, about 5-foot-2, with short hair, has been taking food from the Main Library food court without paying, the food court manager reported to police. Monday, she picked up a bottle of fruit juice, a sandwich and a bag of fries, looked around and walked toward the back door, where an employee was standing. She turned around to head through the front entrance, got a bag, put her food in it and looked around to see if she was being watched. She didn't notice the food court manager. The female went through the checkout where she only paid for the drink. \nThe food court manger said he followed her outside the food court's west exit and grabbed her backpack. The female turned around, threw the fruit drink at the manager and ran. Monday, the female stole about $6 in food, according to the food court manager, who declined to press charges.
