INPIRG raises funds for homeless

In honor of National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week, Indiana Public Interest Research Group sponsored "PB and Jam" Wednesday in Dunn Meadow. \nINPIRG gave out free peanut butter and jelly sandwiches while listening to music and accepting donations. \nWith music and free sandwiches, INPIRG hoped to collect donations for the Shalom Center, a homeless center in Bloomington.\nINPIRG has activities planned during the week to raise hunger awareness. Monday the group participated in a day-long fast.\n"We each fasted on our own," said senior Angie Thomas, campaign coordinator. "We just want people to realize the pain homeless people go through on a daily basis."\nTentatively, Thursday night Kilroy's, 502 E. Kirkwood Ave., will sponsor a "Dollar Night" for the homeless and hungry in Bloomington. Again, donations will be given to the Shalom Center.\nFriday, members of INPIRG will be at Kroger, 1175 S. College Mall Rd. and Wal-mart, 3201 W. State Road 45, collecting donations to benefit the homeless for the upcoming holiday season.\nThe group has also set up boxes at the center desks of the dorms in hopes of collecting canned food and toiletries. Donations will be accepted through Monday.
