Flag football brings thrill to teams

There are not 40 thousand spectators in the stands, but close friends and fraternity brothers crowd the near sideline. There isn't inches of rain on the field because these games are played indoors. There is no local television coverage, but friends of the players can be seen taping with their home video cameras. \nThese teams are not playing for the Oaken Bucket. However, these teams play for something that to them might be just as exciting -- a light blue Recreation Sports All-Campus Intramural Champion t-shirt.\nThe all-campus finals of flag football was held last night on the astro-turf of Mellancamp Pavilion. While there was inclement weather outside, inside was dry and turf gave the players an extra spring in their step. \nThe intramural flag football championship is one of the most coveted intramural crowns. In all, more than 390 teams participated in one of 13 regular season divisions. The field was reduced to five divisions for the all-campus playoffs. There were two co-ed divisions, one women's division and two men's divisions.
