Buskirk-Chumley Theatre appoints technical director

The Buskirk-Chumley Theatre board of directors has selected two people to fill vital, but vacant, positions at the theater. Danielle McClelland, a Bloomington resident, was selected to serve as the new theater director while fellow Bloomington resident E.J. Ernsberger will fill the position of technical director.\nMike Wilkerson, President of the Buskirk-Chumley board of Directors, said that both individuals possessed excellent qualifications.\n"(McClelland) came highly recommended to us, and so far we see nothing but great vision and intelligence, and we're really looking forward to having her work with us," Wilkerson said.\nMcClelland, who previously served as the program director for the Columbus (Ind.) Area Arts Council has been living in Bloomington while working in Columbus.\n"She's familiar with Bloomington and it's art scene," Wilkerson said.\nMcClelland was unfortunately unavailable for comment Wednesday night.\nE.J. Ernsberger, the new Technical Director for the Buskirk-Chumley, is equally qualified for his new job, Wilkerson said.\n"E.J. has been doing technical work on the Buskirk-Chumley for about the past year, and now he's our formal technical director for the theater," Wilkerson said.\nThe Buskirk-Chumley, which was recently given more than a million dollars by the City of Bloomington to help pay off outstanding debt, has also been the focus of considerable community debate centering around the upcoming performance of "The Vagina Monologues." Wilkerson, however, is not worried about the controversy. As long as the performances meet certain standards, the facility is open for rent by anyone inside or outside the community.\n"You can't and shouldn't screen the content of the work that they're going to do. Obviously extreme material such as pornography can't be shown, but we also can't censor our renters," Wilkerson said.
