The IU Police Department's Web site has a new look.\nThe revamped Web site, www.indiana.edu/~iupd, combines the old site with new features, allowing visitors to get information about the department, the IU Police Academy, e-mail requests for crime prevention programs, send an online compliment to an officer or assist the Department in solving criminal investigations. Information about cases IUPD is investigating is also available on the site.\nThe new Web site was designed to be more user-friendly, Lt. Jerry Minger said.\n"The frames will help navigate through the information and the Web forms will help communication between the students and the police," Minger said.\nMinger said he is hopeful posting information about pending cases will help the community get involved in solving crimes.\n"Many times crimes go unsolved because suspects go unidentified. Criminals count on this anonymity," Minger said. "What they don't count on is being caught by the people they live with in the community. Criminals many times think that police are the only ones who are enforcing the law. The police believe that it is everyone's responsibility and want to work with students to help keep their property secure and the community safe."\nIUPD is investigating the theft of a subject's wallet, which contained a University ID card, from the Student Recreational Sports Center. The card was used April 9, the day of the theft, to fraudulently purchase more than $150 worth of food items at several residence hall food courts. Photos of three suspects using the stolen ID card are available on IUPD's Web site in the case files section.\nQuestions concerning the new Web information can be e-mailed to iupd@indiana.edu.
