False alarm results in alcohol violation

Late Tuesday night an accidental phone call to 911 from Theta Chi, 1440 N. Jordan Ave., drew IU police officers to the fraternity to make sure there was no problem and ended with officers discovering alcohol at the house, police said.\nOfficers arrived in room 202, from which the phone call was made. The residents told the officers there was no problem, but officers found alcohol when they went inside.\n"While the (officers) were speaking to the residents, they observed two bottles of alcoholic beverages," Lt. Jerry Minger said. "There was one tequila bottle and one rum bottle."\nMinger said the residents were cooperative, and no one was intoxicated.\nThe residents were both 21, so no arrests were made. But the IU Police Department reported the incident to the Dean of Student's Office because alcohol is prohibited in greek houses.\nAn InterFraternity Council resolution passed last spring outlaws alcohol in fraternity houses.\nDean of Students Richard McKaig said an incident report will be submitted to the Office of Student Ethics. It will determine whether the house or the individual members will be charged for the offense.\n"They will decide the charges that will be filed and who it will be filed against," McKaig said.
