After scoring one goal against Cal Poly and playing a vital role in both of the team’s wins this weekend, IU junior defender Andrew Gutman was named to College Soccer News’ National Team of the Week on Monday.

Gutman started both games at the left back position against Cal Poly and San Diego at the Mike Berticelli Tournament in South Bend. He opened up the scoring in the first game after freshman attacker Griffin Dorsey played a ball into the 18-yard box, which caused trouble for the Mustangs’ defense.

Freshman striker Thomas Warr settled the ball in the box and laid it off for Gutman, who finished the job from eight yards away.

The junior helped the team’s defense maintain a clean sheet throughout the weekend, totaling 190 minutes without allowing a goal.

Gutman was the only Hoosier to be named to the Team of the Week and was one of two players from the tournament to get national recognition.

After an undefeated weekend in northern Indiana, the team started off the weekend 2-0 and will return for a home game 8 p.m. Friday against San Francisco.
