Lanza chosen as Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

Freshman butterfly swimmer Vinicius Lanza competes during the 200-yard butterfly Saturday evening at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. Lanza placed third in the event with a school record and an NCAA A cut time of 1:42.38.

IU sophomore swimmer Vini Lanza has been named the Big Ten Swimmer of the week according to the league office.

Lanza’s honor comes on the heels of winning five combined individual and relay titles at the 2016 AT&T Winter Nationals in Atlanta.

The native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, also set school records in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly in times of 45.56 and 1:41.34 respectively.

In the relays, Lanza helped IU win the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard medley relay, and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

CollegeSwimming.com also named Lanza the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week.
