Jefferson finds new support

In 2000, the IU athletics department decided to restart the women's field hockey program. After only four years, the team has made a complete 180 degree turnaround and has gone from a basic expansion team to a team that now contends on a regular basis with the best in the country.

Car bomb kills at least 4 in Fallujah

FALLUJAH, Iraq -- A car bomb exploded Tuesday near a police station on a major street in the tense city of Fallujah, killing at least four people, police said. The attack came a day after a series of suicide bombings in Baghdad left about three dozen dead.

During its eight-year run, "The Sandman" won numerous awards inside and outside the field of graphic novels. Now, after a seven-year absence, Gaiman returns to the series that brought him the most commercial success. The latest chapter of the series, "Endless Nights," perfectly sums up the themes and ideas presented in "The Sandman."

Musician to bring jazz, funk to IU

Karl Denson's Tiny Universe will bring its unique fusion of jazz and funk to the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 122 S. Walnut St. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight with the band playing two sets with a short break in-between. Denson, the sax-playing front man of Tiny Universe, played in Lenny Kravitz's touring band for five years and appeared on two of Kravitz's records ("Mama Said" and "Are You Gonna Go My Way?").

IU student wins photo contest

Freshman Roger Teska is 18-years-old and is $14,000 in debt. He might just be beginning his college education, but he is not alone. On average, students borrow more than $16,000 over the course of their education, up about 66 percent since 1997, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

Panel discusses domestic violence

Council hopefuls focus on issues as election nears

Elections for Bloomington's city council are next Tuesday, November 4th, and with 18 candidates running for election, campaigns are now coming down to the wire. District elections are made up of two or more candidates in each of the six local districts, at least one Democrat and one Republican running for office. There are also three at-large seats up for grabs.
