LONDON – Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella, who turned such literary works as “The English Patient,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “Cold Mountain” into acclaimed movies, died Tuesday of a hemorrhage following surgery. He was 54.

The newspaper is dead. Or at least dying a slow, excruciating death that should come to fruition within the next decade, as the Internet and other alternative outlets of media take over. That’s the story we’ve been fed since the 1990s, but I always had trouble believing it – mostly because newspapers have absorbed all the onslaughts over the years.

Stolen meteorite found on sale at gun show

A piece of meteorite stolen from a museum was recovered after a man who owns another slice of the same rock saw it at a gun show. Someone stole the 12-by-16-inch meteorite slice valued at $5,000 from the Joshua Tree Earth and Space Museum in Lakeville about two weeks ago.
