IU alumnus Gates to stay on as Obama’s defense secretary
President-elect Barack Obama’s National Security team will include a familiar face – both to the nation and to IU. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, an IU alumnus, will keep his position, Obama announced Monday at a press conference in Chicago. Gates served in this role since 2006 under President George W. Bush. He earned a master’s degree in history from IU in 1966.
