Teams of playwrights, directors and actors will compete this weekend to create the best original play with about 24 hours of preparation for the sixth-annual Ike and Julie Arnove PlayOffs, a Bloomington Playwrights Project production with a baseball twist.

With two defensive coordinators barking orders and teaching schemes at the same time, it’s inevitable to have an occasional disagreement on the field. But IU senior defensive end Jammie Kirlew said IU co-defensive coordinators Brian George and Joe Palcic have never overstepped each other while preparing for an opponent. Ever.

IU will need a minimum of six victories to even be considered for a bowl spot, and with its tie with Northwestern for eighth in the Big Ten, this weekend’s game becomes that much more vital to their postseason dreams.

There really isn’t a way to avoid it: IU’s game against Northwestern might turn into a play-in game for a bowl at season’s end. But if the Hoosiers want to “play 13” games this season, their defense must first stop Northwestern’s proficient quarterback Mike Kafka on Saturday.

Two seasons ago, the women’s tennis team found itself with four freshmen on the roster, each from a different country. Chemistry and camaraderie on the squad would not be simple given the possible communication issues. In stepped then-sophomore Lindsey Stuckey to help unite the team for its season and future.

IU to face Iowa, begin final stretch of season

Nearing their final stretch of conference play, the Hoosiers play five games in 13 days starting Sunday. The game’s are scheduled closely , however, back in September the team had four games in eight days, so they feel as if they’ve prepared for it.

The IU volleyball team is one of three teams tied for sixth in the Big Ten going into this weekend’s slated matches. The Hoosiers (15-8, 3-5) could have tiebreakers over each of the other two after their road trip.

IU scientists build new camera to detect eye damage

Professor of Optometry and director of IU’s Borish Center for Ophthalmic Research Ann Elsner is building a digital camera that uses laser scanning to screen for eye damage caused by diabetes and other sources of vision loss.
