Primed and ready: students pumped for start

·

Sweat, exhaustion, drive, and ambition. The only thing more thrilling than jumping back into another year at IU is the anticipation that comes with participating in one of the many challenging intramurals offered on campus.

Softball is the sister sport of America's favorite pastime. Now for the first time in three years the sibling sports will be played at the same time of year at IU. Intramural softball will no longer be featured in the early fall but instead in the late spring.

·

When Steve Peterson took over the IU crew head coach duties in 2003, the collegiate rowing world took note. After all, he had spent two decades in an East Coast rowing establishment where, according to tradition, oarsmen stay for life.

·

When the IU men's cross country team climbs into the van for the short drive to NCAAs Championships in Terre Haute early this November, the health of the team's core will be an important factor. Even with its recent success on the national level, the team has not gotten to the NCAA's grand finale with everyone 100 percent healthy.

Sophomore overcomes injury to pace team

·

If sophomore Jessica Gall were a motorized vehicle, she'd be a full-sized pick-up truck with tons of horsepower. If she were a prize fighter, she'd be Rocky Balboa. And if Gall were a brand of paper towel, she'd most definitely be Bounty.

Senior leading young Hoosier team on and off court

·

Every collegiate coach wants an upperclassman on her team whose etiquette and demeanor on the court rub off onto younger players getting accustomed to the college game. Very few coaches get a player whose actions in the community combine with this knowledge of the sport to set an example for how to make the most out of college life. IU women's volleyball coach Katie Weismiller has exactly that player in senior middle blocker Katie Pollom.

IU routs Central Michigan 41-10

·

One of the most important concepts in any sport is the ability to start off on the right foot. If Saturday's 41-10 defeat of the Central Michigan Chippewas is any indication, the Hoosiers have just begun the 2004 campaign firmly planted on solid ground.

Tim Couch's stay in Green Bay was short and unproductive. The top overall draft choice in the 1999 draft by Cleveland, Couch was released by the Browns in June. He joined the Packers and was projected as Brett Favre's backup. But the quarterback never progressed, and the Packers cut him Sunday as teams got down to the 53-man roster limit for the regular season.
