Successful season ends in Regional loss

IU soccer is synonymous with success. IU soccer teams have produced six national championships, 16 College Cup appearances, 27 All-American honorees and the most successful coach in NCAA history. Beating the Hoosiers can make a season a success for many teams.

Third-place finish welcome sight for IU

After an NCAA-mandated day off, the IU women's rowing team is a little more buoyant at its Lake Lemon boathouse. Sunday at the Head of the Elk, the IU Varsity Eight earned a bronze medal in a third-place finish tied with Big Ten and in-state rival Purdue.

Hoosiers end regular season tonight

Wednesday night will mark the end of another Big Ten championship season for the IU men's soccer team as it closes out the regular season at 7 p.m. at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

Players arrested on Halloween

After a win over then-No. 23 Minnesota 30-21 Saturday afternoon, two IU football players were arrested for criminal mischief and resisting law enforcement early Halloween morning. The altercation took place at the 1400 block of North Lincoln Avenue around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Auburn moves into third in latest BCS rankings

Auburn University needs three victories and a little help to play for a national title. The Tigers moved into third place in the Bowl Championship Series standings Monday, while Southern California and Oklahoma held firmly to the top two spots.

Defense springs to action, halts Gopher attack

Rush defense has long been a sore spot for the IU football team this season as the team gave up an average of 213.1 yards per game on the ground, ranking them next to last in the Big Ten. The situation was especially foreboding coming into Saturday's Homecoming game against a Minnesota ground game that averaged 278.4 rushing yards per game.

Freshman adjusts to American game

When she first came to IU, freshman Frederique Meeuwsen did not know what to expect. Recruited by IU coach Amy Robertson from her home town in Zuid-Schawoude, Holland, Meeuwsen was not accustomed to the collegiate style of play.

IU outruns Minnesota for 30-21 win

Things were looking scary for IU's football team following Saturday's first quarter. The Hoosiers fell behind 14-0 to No. 24 Minnesota in front of a Homecoming crowd at Memorial Stadium. But then the Hoosiers put on the mask of the team that started the season 2-0, and treated the crowd to a 30-21 upset win against the Golden Gophers.

Women's swim and dive falls to ASU Saturday, the No. 17 ranked IU women's swimming and diving team took on No. 21 Arizona State University in Bloomington at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. After going through a shortened meet of only 16 events, the Hoosiers fell to the Sun Devils, 156.5-142.5.

PITTSBURGH -- So much for the longest winning streaks in NFL history. Ben Roethlisberger drove the Steelers to four scores following uncharacteristic New England turnovers and Pittsburgh ended the Patriots' two long winning streaks with a remarkably easy 34-20 victory Sunday.

Hoosiers give lone senior 1 last win at home, 4-0

The only senior on the IU women's soccer team couldn't have asked for a better senior night. When IU battled Butler University Friday night, senior midfielder Kim Grodek scored two goals and tallied an assist en route to a 4-0 Hoosier victory.

Peterson's shot grants IU victory

ST. LOUIS -- Struggling to make things happen for No. 8 IU (13-3-1 overall), sophomore forward Jacob Peterson's play versus St. Louis University (8-7-1 overall) secured the victory for the Hoosiers. IU won 2-1 in overtime in front of 3,317 fans on Halloween at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Peterson's shot in overtime bounced off a defender and into the goal, giving IU the win.

Gall places 3rd as team finishes 5th in meet

The IU women's cross country team finished fifth this weekend at the Big Ten Championships at the University of Iowa. Iowa held the meet at its newly dedicated Ashton Cross Country course. The six-kilometer event featured four nationally ranked top-30 teams, including the Hoosiers.

The Hoosiers will attempt to win their first Big Ten title in 14 years when they travel to the University of Iowa for the Big Ten Championships. The Wolverines of Michigan, who currently rank fourth in the nation, stand in the way of the Hoosiers' title hopes.
